When in need of a no-nonsense bulk document conversion tool, Doxillion Document Converter is a reliable option to consider. It is capable of converting any mixture of PDF, Office, and other text-based documents into Word, OpenOffice, PDF, plain text, HTML, and XML files in one single operation. And while others will promise you spotless PDF-to-Word conversions that they will never attain, this tool will honestly warn you about their unavoidable low quality.

In an exercise of humility and rowing clearly against the current, this NCH tool will remind you of how difficult – if not impossible – it is to produce high-quality PDF-to-text conversions, even when the original layout and structure of the file is not too complex. If you go ahead with the conversion process, the app will only provide you with the text of the PDF file in the format selected, and will ignore everything else to avoid further disappointment – it is either that or nothing. All conversion processes between documents are bound to have issues, and the quality of the resulting file will depend on the complexity of the original layout and the combination of formats that you choose.

Do not waste your time looking for complicated settings, as there are none. Once you’ve selected an output format, you can click on the “Document Settings” button to open a small window with nothing but some basic document adjustments, such as the size of the margins. Surely, this lack of more sophisticated settings won’t help to achieve top-quality conversions in some cases, but Doxillion Document Converter seems to have been designed to convert thousands of documents in a fast and straightforward way, not to help you achieve the perfect layout conversion – which, in most cases, is nothing but a waste of time. The program deals only with full documents, as no page range selection or page extraction capabilities have been made available. It also comes with basic OCR support, which will allow you to extract text from image files that you can then edit with your favorite word processor.

As with most NCH tools, Doxillion Document Converter is a paid tool whose full functionality you can enjoy for free as long as you don’t make any commercial use of it.

Guest That is an insightful review of the app and I will definitely try it out for my archive docs as well as PDFs. For now, I use GroupDocs Conversion and it has been a helpful tool in docs conversion process. You should also check it out and review it whenever possible.
